Head Coach Matt Gordon is entering his 14th year as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Phoenix College. In his thirteen years at Phoenix College, he has won 293 games, and has led the Bears to 7 NJCAA National Tournaments including 1 National Championship (2014), 3 Final Four appearances, 7 Region 1 Championships, 7 District 1 Championships, and 11 Region 1 Championship game appearances.
Coach Gordon also was an assistant coach at the University of Portland from 2001-2003, where he was in charge of player development and helped in recruiting. Coach Gordon also spent a year at Dominican University where he helped guide the Penguins to a 12-game increase in victories from the previous year and a spot in the league championship game.
Before going to Dominican, Coach Gordon spent a year at Cal State Northridge where he was part of a coaching staff that helped lead the Matadors to their first 20 win season.
Coach Gordon graduated from UCLA, where he was a Student Assistant for four years. During his tenure at UCLA, the Bruins went to four straight NCAA tournaments, reaching the Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen in two of those years.
Head Trainer / Coach
Ken Carrillo has coached at all levels of basketball from Middle School to NCAA Division 1 for the past 31 years. Most recently, Coach Carrillo was an assistant coach at the University of Southern Utah from 2004 to 2007. Carrillo also served as a division one assistant at NAU and Oregon State.
Coach Carrillo also has nice years of head coaching experience at the NCAA Div. II and NJCAA levels. He was the head coach at Jamestown CC for eight years and Saint Joseph’s College for two years.
Coach Carrillo will be in charge of the defense this year for the Bears, and he will also help coach the perimeter players.
“I am extremely excited to have someone with so much experience on our coaching staff, he will be invaluable to our team this year,” says Coach Gordon.
Coach Carrillo earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Arizona and he received his Master’s Degree from the United States Sports Academy.
