I have a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Oklahoma and 33 years of experience working in the chemical industry. I have held positions in R&D as a Senior Research Chemist, R&D Group Leader, and Assistant to the Director of Research. In chemical manufacturing, I held the following positions: Production Superintendent, Plant Manager, and V.P. of Operations. I have been responsible for R&D efforts to make compounds that exhibit biological activity and developing new processes for producing nitroparaffins and chlorocarbons. In addition, I have managed chemical manufacturing operations that produced chlorocarbons, insecticides, recycled solvents, and specialty chemicals.
While as an undergraduate student in chemistry, I taught a semester of high school chemistry to seniors at a Catholic high school. In addition, I have presented several workshops to staff members on “The Mechanisms of Organic Chemical Reactions”, “Statistical Experimental Design”, and “Management by Objectives”. As a Consultant, I conducted outplacement seminars to displaced workers.
Since I have the academic training and industrial background in the chemical industry, I would like to help students in chemistry classes better understand some of the more difficult concepts in chemistry, especially organic chemistry. In addition, I am retired and have the time to devote to tutoring students without any time constraints.
My specialties are organic chemistry and manufacturing management. My specialty in organic chemistry is supported by training (PhD in organic chemistry and numerous workshops and semiars) and 33 years in chemical R&D and manufacturing. My specialty in manufacturing managememt is supported by training (management workshops and semiars) and experience (Process Group Supervisor, Laboratory Manager, Production Superintendent, Plant Manager, and V.P. of Operations).
