Instructor Qualifications

I have decades of training and experience with children and adults; beginning, intermediate, and advanced students; and even professional players. I'm also well versed in teaching multiple styles of guitar. Regardless of genre, I utilize the most current trends in pedagogy. I more than quadrupled the size of the elective guitar program at the University of Minnesota, developed the most successful studio in the Twin Cities, and am newly located in the Noda neighborhood of Charlotte, NC.

Instructor Specialties

I am well versed in many styles and genres to include classical, acoustic, and electric. Some of my students study classical music while others study metal, rock, and pop. Many of my students cross train. Regardless, I I teach students to work effectively and efficiently, and to perform with security and confidence.  Some of the things all I my students learn how to do is:

  • achieve a great tone

  • maximize your time with effective study and practice habits.

  • always practice with specific aims.

  • build habits of security and confidence.

  • avoid habits of confusion and error.

  • develop sustained concentration by spending less time in the practice chair.

  • organize and balance your practice between repertoire and exercises.

  • play with expression.

  • combat performance anxiety.

  • play music you love with security and confidence.

  • built and maintain a repertoire with the least amount of effort.

  • lead others in efficient band rehearsals.

  • confidently evaluate music teachers.
